MultiBit HD Download
Download MultiBit HD v0.5.1 for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The hierarchical deterministic Bitcoin wallet with seed phrase recovery.
About MultiBit HD
MultiBit HD (Hierarchical Deterministic) was the successor to MultiBit Classic, released in 2015. It introduced modern wallet technology using a 12 or 24-word seed phrase (mnemonic) that could regenerate all your Bitcoin addresses and private keys from a single backup.
The "HD" in the name refers to BIP32/BIP39/BIP44 hierarchical deterministic key derivation, which was a significant security and usability improvement over the individual key storage used by MultiBit Classic.
Key Features of MultiBit HD
- Seed phrase backup — A single 12 or 24-word phrase backs up your entire wallet
- Encrypted wallet files — Wallets stored in password-protected
.wallet.aesfiles - Hardware wallet support — Integration with Trezor and KeepKey
- Improved security — Better key derivation and storage mechanisms
- Exchange integration — Built-in exchange features (no longer functional)

MultiBit HD uses different file types than Classic:

mbhd.yaml | Wallet configuration file | Medium - wallet settings |
seed phrase (words) | 12 or 24-word recovery mnemonic | Critical - can restore everything |
.spvchain | Blockchain synchronization data | Low - can be regenerated |
Do You Have Your Seed Phrase?
If you wrote down your 12 or 24-word seed phrase when you created your MultiBit HD wallet, you don't need to download MultiBit HD at all. You can restore your wallet directly in Electrum or any other BIP39-compatible wallet.
